Bungalow on the Black Sea Coast
The customer wanted to build a house for the summer holidays on the coast of the Black Sea, among the southern nature of stunning beauty. The site is a wild area on a small plateau between two cliffs, and access is possible only from the sea. The main requirement was the uniqueness of the architecture. The place, due to its picturesque nature, is extremely popular among successful businessmen and government officials, so there are many private residences in the neighborhood, designed in the classical, almost stereotypical style. Our customer wanted his house to stand out amongst the columns and porticos for people sailing along the coast so that the architecture must provoke a wow effect and draws everyone’s attention.
The architecture was inspired by the surrounding nature. The house consists of several blocks which are slightly overlapping, resembling crystals growing out of a rock. Only natural materials were selected for decoration and finishing: massive tree trunks enclose the inner pond and small Japanese garden, the walls are made of porous ceramic blocks, and the front face of the crystals – from the large panoramic windows. The main rooms – living room, lounge, study, and master bedroom – face the sea, so the seascape becomes the fourth wall. Behind the main rooms, there are several bedrooms, kitchen, and technical rooms: they overlook the forest and the inner garden. The building is curved in an arc, repeating the terrain, so it is always possible to hide from the hot sun in the rooms located in the northern part of the building.
