Underground Spa in Sochi
A Japanese architect developed a concept for a complex recreation area for our customer, who has already built his residence in Krasnaya Polyana, Sochi. Space is located underground, with panoramic windows overlooking the pond and the surrounding mountain scenery.
It is divided into three zones – the spa area itself, a gym, and a spacious lounge room for events, where the customer family can relax with their friends – adults as well as children.
Originally there was a spiral staircase that descended into the center of the hall, but the client removed it. The architect proposed not to close the hole in the ceiling, but to turn it into an atrium with live plants.
From the spa area with bath and massage room, there is a passage to a grotto under an artificial waterfall where the Japanese architect installed a bathtub with hot water similar to a rotenburo – an open-air bath common for Japanese onsens.
The sky atrium located in the center of the spa fills it with natural light and the warmth of the southern sun, while the underground location and the surrounding pond provide a fresh and pleasant coolness during hot days.
