Private Residence in Shepelyovo
The customer purchased a plot of land on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland. The family planned to live there permanently, so it was necessary to ensure sufficient living space and comfort.
The customer paid a special attention to the project – not only to its appearance and forms, but also to the spiritual idea behind the concept of the house, that had to be reflected in the geometry and interiors. It was specially noted that the house can be built only of wood, but we were required to propose an unusual form that does not resemble traditional wooden buildings – Russian log houses, European timber frame houses or Japanese minka.
The architect quickly enough found a solution – the concept of a growing house. According to it, the house is compared to handmade leather shoes: like a good shoe, the house easily adjusts to the needs of the owners, taking the best shape just for them. In addition, such a building will get its individual charm while people live in it, rather than looking the best way exclusively at the time of completion, and after that the deterioration will begin. The second important aspect of the concept was eco-friendly living – not only the house itself should grow, but also the forest around it, especially since the land around it is known as a place of swans’ migration stopover. Usually, people are perceived as something alien, hostile to nature, but with the right location of the house and the care of the site man can, on the contrary, help the environment in its regeneration and recovery. Upgraded light wells, solar panels and clever ventilation minimize the use of natural resources.
